About Us
A brief look at Linda Black.
Owners Jon Jackson and Quoc Hyunh opened Linda Black in Chapel Street in 2002, and
it quickly became a popular retail destination for locals and tourists alike.
Experienced furriers and licensed second hand dealers, they recycled beautiful high quality fur, well before its' recent resurgence in popularity.
Now situated in the charming 1920's shopping village of McKinnon Road, McKinnon (since July 2011), Linda Black has become Melbourne's 'go to' shop for every aspect of vintage and classic furs.
Melbourne was once the garment manufacturing capital of Australia. Every inner city
street was full of fabric and skin merchants, clothing factories, milliners,
furriers, glovers, hatters and tailors, who supplied the retail and department
stores.
The back streets of Prahran, Richmond and Windsor were once littered with dye works,
tanneries and work rooms. Today, almost all aspects of clothing manufacture in
Australia has dwindled, and only a handful of furriers remain. To redress this,
Linda Black furrier Jon Jackson has stepped into the breach to continue the
tradition and keep the fur trade alive. These days the pieces sold here are all
second hand and even new items are made from vintage skins and garments. |
